Three scientists from Yale University are using Marvelwood as a research station and base camp throughout the summer as they study ticks and Lyme Disease. The lead scientist, Kim Tso, is a PhD candidate at Yale; her work involves examining the correlation between Lyme Disease in ticks and its effect on mammals and birds. She will be trapping various species of local mammals and collecting ticks found on the creatures for study. Marvelwood's science department chair Laurie Doss and several of her students will be collecting and contributing ticks they may find on the birds they capture as part of their on-going bird banding project this summer. Laurie hopes to extend the Yale-Marvelwood connection by bringing Ms. Tso and her colleagues to campus to speak to Environmental Studies and Biology students this fall.
